Dog training guide reviewed: Secrets to Dog Training

Over 200,000 copies of the Secrets To Dog Training guide have been purchased by dog owners but does this mean it’s a good guide?

Formerly known as Sit Stay Fetch, this guide was updated in 2009. Reviewing the guide I can see why it has been so popular for over 4 years. Written by Daniel Stevens a well known expert dog trainer, I would consider it a manual for dog ownership, rather than just a dog training guide.

Don’t let the thought of  261 pages of detailed information overwhelm you. Daniel has written the straight forward instructions in an easy to read style. I also found it very easy to navigate to any specific topic or particular problem, so you won’t have to read all 261 pages to find the help or advice you need.

The guide also includes lots of step by step pictures which illustrate the training very well. One of the bonuses is an audio book in mp3 format, a real plus if you prefer to listen to rather than read information.

Those who prefer video instruction, will appreciate the 30 min downlable video which has been part of the package since the 2009 update.

What’s in the Guide

Secrets to Dog Training begins with the basics of dog ownership such as preparing for and choosing your puppy.  Then logically moves on to cover caring for your dog through the various stages of development.

The guides also explains different styles of dog training such as, dog whispering, the pros and cons of various collars, crate training and clicker training to mention a few

I particularly enjoyed the real life case studies which really give a good insight into the right approach for correcting any dogs behavior problems. Secrets to Dog Training, explains how many behavioral problems are caused by owners not understanding the way their dog sees the world and compounded by poor communication with of the dog.

A number of possible solutions are suggested for each problem behavior, so your sure to find the right advice for you and your dog, whether your dog is a puppy or an older dog..

The obedience training is divided into three skill levels, so regardless of whether you and your dog are a complete beginners or if the two of you have some training experience, you will find everything you need to move to the next stage of obedience training.

Bonuses

The package includes a number of bonuses some of which I have previously mentioned such as the video and the audio book.

Some of the other bonuses included are:

A quick Guide to dog Aggression
Dog Grooming Made Easy
All the House Training Methods and tricks
Secrets to Becoming the Alpha Dog

My favorite bonus is the support, you can get unlimited help for your particular dog problem, from the Secrets to Dog Training team in the member forum.

In Conclusion

Secrets to Dog training is a comprehensive and well written guide that is suitable for all dog owners or prospective dog owners. It is a complete package detailing the answers to most issues of dog ownership and giving real life examples of dog behavior problems you can relate to and learn from.
